A Look Back at His Coaching Career

Early Career: Germany and England

Gregg Berhalter's coaching career began in Germany, where he played professionally for Energie Cottbus and 1860 Munich. In 2006, he signed with 1860 Munich and was named captain of the team. He stayed there for a further two and a half years before moving to England to play for Crystal Palace.

Return to Germany: Energie Cottbus

After a brief stint in England, Berhalter returned to Germany to coach Energie Cottbus. He spent two seasons with the club, leading them to promotion to the Bundesliga in 2009. Berhalter left Cottbus in 2011 to become an assistant coach with the United States national team.

US Men's National Team Head Coach

In 2018, Berhalter was appointed head coach of the United States men's national soccer team. He led the team to victory in the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the 2020 Nations League. However, the team failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, which led to Berhalter's firing.
