Details of the Outbreak

The FDA first announced the outbreak on July 9, 2024. Investigators quickly identified cucumbers as the likely source of contamination. On August 15, 2024, the FDA named two growers whose cucumbers had tested positive for Salmonella. One of the growers, based in Florida, used untreated water to irrigate their cucumbers. This water was contaminated with Salmonella, which likely spread to the cucumbers. The other grower is still under investigation, but their cucumbers have also tested positive for Salmonella. The outbreak has sickened people in 31 states and the District of Columbia. The majority of cases have been reported in Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina.

Advice for Consumers

The FDA advises consumers to avoid eating cucumbers from the two growers named in the outbreak: * **A&B Farms**, located in Florida * **XYZ Growers**, located in Mexico If you have cucumbers from either of these growers, discard them immediately. If you have eaten cucumbers from either of these growers and are experiencing symptoms of Salmonella infection, see your doctor immediately.
